Reems Creek Golf Club is in Weaverville, North Carolina (Just 10 minutes north of Asheville) and offers a secluded setting that captures the splendor and beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Reems Creek has been regularly rated at 4 stars on Golf Digest’s prestigious “Places to Play” list. Most of the holes on this par-72 mountain course have elevation changes that test your ability to pick the right club to fit the terrain. You’ll also find that most of the par-4s are target holes that require accuracy and strategy. Reems Creek offers the unique opportunity to play on all Bentgrass turf.
The par-4 fifth hole is one example of a great placement hole. This short, downhill par-4 (348 yards from the back and 251 from the front) has a large lake on the left along the fairway and another one in front of the green. The tee shot requires precision over power and most players will have to cross water two times to complete the hole.
The ninth hole is a challenging par-5 that plays at 532 yards from the back tees. Players hit their drive toward a plateau about 200 yards down the fairway. Most players will lay up on the downhill second shot, but long hitters can reach the green from here with a heroic effort if they can avoid bunkers fronting the green.
The 16th is a par-4 playing at 358 yards. It has a pond to carry from the tee and a second lake to negotiate 220 yards down the fairway. A well-placed drive of about 200 to 210 yards must be executed to avoid both water hazards. The second shot is over the lake to a two-tiered green and the fairway is nestled into an area that provides one of most picturesque views of the valley.
The closing hole at Reems Creek is another great par-5, measuring 522 yards from the back tees. Diners in the clubhouse dining room enjoy watching players finish up their round on the 18th green. Watch out for the lake off to the left as you lay-up down to the fairway or you could become the center of attention. Do your best as you putt out to impress those who are eating lunch and watching you from up above.
