Mark Hughes

Mark Hughes began his career in the game of golf competing in professional tournaments in numerous countries including Europe, Africa, and The Carribean. He later returned to his home state of North Carolina to work as the Head Professional at Renaissance Park Golf Course in Charlotte,NC in 1988. In 1990, Mark became a caddy on the Senior P.G.A Tour working with the likes of Doug Sanders, Bob Wynn, and numerous other successful tour players. To this day Mark still continues his work as a caddy and teacher to various Champion Tour Players whenever called upon.

In 1992 Mark came home again, this time to Asheville,NC, to work as the Assistant Golf Professional at the historical Grove Park Inn Resort, until later excepting the Director of Golf/Head Professional position at the Great Smokies Holiday Inn Resort in 1997. He remained there until 2004, when he then joined forces with longtime friend Larry Carter as his Assistant Professional at Reems Creek Golf Club where you can still find him today.


Larry Carter

Larry Carter has been a member of the P.G.A for 35 years. During his tenure he has served as Tournament Chairman, Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President, and also President of the Mountains Chapter of the Carolinas Section of the PGA. He has been recognized as one of the top teaching professionals in the Carolinas for many years, and has recently partnered with longtime friend and fellow P.G.A member Gwen Miller to form the Reems Creek Golf Academy. Larry has produced two instructional dvds titled Hole In One and The Right Stuff.

Larry started his career playing golf at The University of North Carolina – Asheville before turning professional in 1975. To this day, he is considered as one of the best players this area has ever produced. In 1979 he became the Head Golf Professional at the historical Grove Park Inn Resort. While there, the pro shop was consistently ranked in the nation’s top 25 for resort courses, and thru 1987-1989 his golf shop was rated in the top 100 overall. In 1989 he left the resort to become the Director of Golf/ Head Professional of the newly opened Reems Creek Golf Course, and 21 years later, he is still the only Head Professional this club has ever had.
